What this site provides

Learning Sign Language provides free written information for people beginning to learn American Sign Language. The content is informational only. The site does not offer lessons, services or products.

Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is professional, medical, audiological, legal or educational advice. Decisions about a child's hearing, health, care or schooling belong with the family and qualified professionals. Nothing on this site qualifies anyone to interpret.

Accuracy and variation

Signing varies between regions, generations and communities, and written descriptions cannot show movement. The guides are a general starting point. Deaf signers and Deaf teachers are the authority on their language.
